Hello hello!

I hope everyone had a lovely summery week. We actually had a great week over here. We’ve started a rhythm of working in our church’s community garden on Monday mornings, which is so great on so many levels. My boys were very busy this week at a church basketball camp that they all loved, we went to the lake once and I had a great immersion evening with our new homeschool co-op last Thursday night. I had always been worried that a co-op would feel too restrictive and too time consuming. I think, though, that I managed to find the one co-op that matches our philosophy perfectly and I’m really excited about it.

On co-op days, the kids come together and will do subjects like recitation, picture study, composer studio, studio art, literature, Shakespeare, Plutarch, science lab, singing, folk dancing, handicrafts and nature study. I’m helping teach the preform kids this year (ages 3-5) in the morning and then in the afternoons, I get to teach citizenship to the form 2 kids (ages 9-11) and help teach handcrafts to the form 1s (6-8 year olds - we are doing knitting in the fall!). It’s a pretty big commitment but my oldest is in middle school now and I think one day away from our house with some teachers other than myself will be really beneficial. I had to really rearrange our schedule and say no to some other awesome opportunities to make this work, but I do think it will be worth it.
