On a hotel window in Lisbon.

Melissa flew back to Tulsa on Tuesday at 7 am, so we decided to get a hotel near the airport, Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto, the night before, as there weren’t great options to get to Humberto Delgado Airport, aka Lisbon Airport, originally (and still sometimes) known as Portela (or Lisbon Portela) Airport.

People come from far and wide to this blog to read about the historical nomenclature of Portugal’s busiest airport. Thanks for stopping by.

The hotel’s free buffet starts at 4 am; still, since management knows many travelers have to be at the airport at that time, or even earlier, there is a special arrangement with the Star Inn, directly across the parking lot, whose breakfast buffet starts at 2 am.

“Just go over there and tell them you’re staying here,” said the front office manager at Meliá Lisboa.

I couldn’t resist. I wanted to resist. I know I should resist. I’m going to be 70 next year. I should stop doing things like this. I don’t have to “win” the breakfast buffet anymore.

But I am weak.
