Fast Note: Hubbell Is Right, You’re Winning!

Robert Hubbell is a distinguished writer on Substack, who continually makes the point that we are in danger of being so discouraged by the feeling that “we can’t do anything”, that we let the billionaires win by default.

We don’t show up.

We don’t vote.

But now an examination by G, Elliott Morris with Peter Enns (Left below), a political scientist at Cornell University, has found that policy does loosely follow public opinion, and most groups (excluding the super-rich) want the same things.

He notes:

“This matters because telling people their government ignores them, when it doesn’t, discourages participation. Enns concludes by saying Americans agree with each other far more than they realize, that policy does follow them when they do agree, and that the right reaction to seeing unrepresentative slices of the electorate or society get their way is to get more involved, not less.”

The statistics back him up.

Just in case you were getting discouraged.

So if you are in Wisconsin, for example, get out and vote tomorrow (August 11). A liberal with good ideas is running - Francesca Hong.

She is defined as a ‘Social Democrat’, but in any other part of the world she would be called an ordinary liberal. The right wing goes a bit crazy at times. But you knew that.

As Hubbell wrote today;

“We should not listen to pundits and pollsters who refuse to acknowledge that we live in an alternate reality that cannot be mapped onto the past.”
