*I DID like this sweater Ryan wears in Hail Mary. I probably know who knitted it (but we can talk about that another time)
Oh hi
It’s Sunday morning and I’m sitting on our big blue couch writing this post and Izzy is next to me, working on some interior design in her Toca Boca village. Lou is on tour with Dinosaur Jr and Band of Horses. Izzy is freshly home from two weeks at sleepaway camp. This was her second year going. The camp is in New Hampshire and is a bit of a haul from our house. I left Friday afternoon to stay overnight close-ish to the camp, not wanting to have a 3.5 hour drive early Saturday morning, snag her and drive right back home. It’s a twisty drive from New Hampshire, thru Vermont and down to Massachusetts.
I stayed at a place called Mill Falls Resort Collection. That’s an odd name right? I had no previous experience here and only booked it because the “resort” let me book a room for just one night. I’ve noticed that a lot of places won’t let you book stays for just one night in the summer. The reservation details kept stressing me out because the email told me there was a “check in” location and then a “stay” location. I’m not a chill person when it comes to the unknown. I like to understand exactly what to expect and am not known to just roll with things. My therapist has pinpointed my particular “strain” of ADHD to Anxious ADHD. She says there are at least 7 types of ADHD. Anyhoo, I digress….
I mapped directions to those two locations MANY times trying to wrap my head around how it worked. I looked at the website and still seemed stumped. What the heck is a Resort Collection?! What the heck kind of place is this? Then there was the endless stream of emails reminding me of my upcoming stay and pushing “add ons”. Spa stuff. Restaurant reservations etc. Telling me to make the most of my stay.
Why can’t a human book a hotel room for one night, get ONE confirmation email and then be left alone? The next time we chat should be when I’m standing in front of you at the desk, doing the in person part of checking in, getting my keys and being told where to park.
I long for a simple transaction.
How lovely is this room though? That view? Sweet.
I trusted the process and arrived at the check in address. I wandered into an enormous building that had multiple buildings attached. I saw different gift shops, a restaurant, lounges etc. I was beginning to understand. I suppose the Collection part of the name is referring to the collection of all these extra buildings and things to do etc. Confusing to my brain. It’s like a menu with way too many options, I just feel my brain shut down. Tired, now I’m tired.
It turns out the location of where I was to be sleeping that night wasn’t even in an attached building to the main building but down the road completely independent (but not). This could simply just be its own hotel. Sigh.
I really liked my little reading nook in my room but then as I looked out the window I found myself confused again. So what is the draw here? Is this a place for people who love boats and all things boats? Because where was/is the beach? Where is that couple going with that cooler? To the boat? To THEIR boat? Do that many people actually own boats or rent boats or want to spend time on boats?
I like boats ok I guess. Well, there is one boat that I LOVE. A pontoon. It’s like the crochet of boating. Slow fashion, slow boating. Cruising along, gently. Taking in the surrounding nature on a comfortable cushioned sofa type situation.
Crap, ok none of this has anything to do with the podcast this week. Will you forgive me?
I’ll just plop some links in here so you can listen to Lou and I blather on (it’s what we do!).
The pic of Lou is a link too.
Ok, I gotta run! Quality time with my Izzy Boo awaits.
Love,
Adelle
