This is not buying or investment advice. I’m simply reporting the data I’m seeing. Please do your own research and make your own decisions. Just because cards have increased in value up to this point, it doesn’t mean they will continue to do so.
I’m getting all of this data from either the Market Movers or Card Hedge platform. These are not my platforms, I’m simply a user and affiliate of them. If you want to do your own research, you can grab a free trial to Market Movers with code BALLCARDGENIUS. You’d also get 20% off of your membership forever if you wanted to continue once your trial has been completed. You can also grab a free trial for Card Hedge as well.
These tools aren’t perfect; no tool is. I’ve seen instances where a graded card was being included in the raw numbers, which might cause a misleading spike in value. So trust, but verify.
What happens after a card spikes?
While Báez’s 2022 Bowman #CPA-JB Chrome Prospect Auto (1st) is up a whopping 148% over 30 days, look at the chart.
This card peaked north of $355 just a day earlier before pulling back more than $80 in a single session. It’s still an enormous number and an incredible run, but this is the first real crack in what had basically been a straight line up.
There’s never a crystal ball, but some sort of pullback after such a huge spike shouldn’t be surprising unless Báez continued making history and headlines, which simply isn’t sustainable.
And then there is PCA…
I asked yesterday in the chat: Was last night PCA’s tipping point, or did he already experience one?
A card that jumps 300% in a week feels like the whole story, but it’s usually just the first chapter. The more interesting question might be what that card is worth six weeks later, once the highlight reel stops autoplaying.
So today’s report is really about what happens after the spike.
