Therapist Notes · Therapist Notes

There is a kind of loneliness that does not come from being alone.

It comes from being surrounded by people who care about you, yet still feeling as if no one truly reaches you.

They may praise your strength. They may admire how calmly you handle difficult situations. They may describe you as independent, patient, mature, and easy to be around. They may trust you with their problems because you seem steady enough to hold them.

But somewhere inside, you may wonder whether they love you or simply love how little you require from them.

They love the version of you who says everything is fine. The version who rarely asks for support. The version who forgives quickly, manages disappointment quietly, and never allows their needs to become inconvenient.

That version may be deeply appreciated.

But it may also be deeply lonely.

Because being valued for needing nothing can feel like being rewarded for disappearing.
