No written reflections today. Here are pictures, all taken June 15, 2026, of natives in the patio garden, some planted by us, others intentionally allowed to remain:

Hyssop (Agastache spp.):

Whorled tickseed (Coreopsis verticillata):

Eastern purple cone flower (Echinacea purpurea) volunteer:

Northern bush honeysuckle cultivar (Diervilla lonicera spp.):

Wild indigo cultivar seedpods (Baptisia spp.):

White cone flower cultivar (Echinacea spp.) volunteer:

Sneezeweed (I think) (Helenium spp.) volunteer:

Share

Annual fleabane (Erigeron annus) volunteer:

Dense blazing star (Liatris spicata):

Mountain mint (Pycnanthemum spp.):

Butterfly weed (Asclepius tuberosa):

Although four out of the ten pictures above depict volunteers, I don’t want to give the impression that they are dominant in the patio garden. Just a few here and there, but they happen to be in bloom right now.

Bonus! Fledgling blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) outside the gate:
