It's a feeling <3

It’s Sunday night in Brooklyn as I type this up and I’m listening to this Nirosta Steel record, My Skyscraper, for like the eighth time since it’s release. Forgive me, but I can’t really help but write about it. Early this morning, I went to get my handlebars rewrapped at the bike shop in my old neighborhood and have since been gently poaching in this sort of saccharin nostalgia that mid-July tends to welcome in. This record really heightens that feeling, I think. Oscar and I agreed that it’s the first new release in a while that made us feel truly deeply affected. Hard to pinpoint the feeling in it, it just feels sort of honest and unfettered, uninfluenced and without obvious reference points. Brand new in execution while actually being somewhat old in reality. He played at the Pyramid Club with Arthur Russell a fair few times. He’ll play there again in September.

Maybe it’s the distant sounds of the Giglio Feast, but the proverbial Ferris Wheel of summer really does seem to keep turning and turning and turning and I’m not really dizzy yet. Boundless energy and endless plans and sunshine and thick hazy storms and shows and catch-ups and run-ins and I gotta say I really feast on it as much as I’m exhausted by it. I went to a fair few shows this weekend at Baby’s, , and TV Eye, and I feel very happy to be able to enjoy live music all the time in this sweet city. This is not my journal and perhaps I should not publish this because it is not really saying anything about the shows at baby’s this week… something something come to baby’s all right read on and it gets more specific - Caroline

THURSDAY:

EARLY: FAT, EVIL CHILDREN (6:30PM) <AA>

Been looking forward to this one crazy style. Fat Evil Children come from LA for their NY debut. Those lucky enough to have attended our Truman Sinclair show in March know the vibes. Those who didn’t should make sure to catch this one - Eli

Fans of Truman Sinclair know about FEC, the band he moonlights in. I saw them play in LA a few months ago at the new Sid the Cat venue in South Pasadena (very nice place to see a show, do check it out if you make your way over there), and the show was echoing which whooping and hooting and hollering, from on and off stage. Breezy, bittersweet vibe in the tunes, alt-country/indie outfit. You’ll ever guess who’s back at Baby’s on this one…it’s beloved Oldstar. If you can prove you have seen all 4 of their sets here this summer I will personally get you a Baby Chain subscription for a year. - Caroline

Born out of Boston’s DIY house-show scene, Trophy Wife has held onto that spirit even as they’ve outgrown basements. Their music embraces growing pains, throwing it all at a wall of guitars. - Baby Intern Ava

This silkpunk band captures and embraces their creative capacity and cultural identity through their music like no other. Combining metal riffs with electronic beats and the haunting cry of the Chinese erhu, this one of a kind act never disappoints. - Baby Intern Ava

A very special Baby Dance, curated by yours truly (me, Manny). We’re bringing together an eclectic lineup led by NYC’s rising sensation Santy Y Su Estillo Unico, making his Baby debut, alongside the dreamy shoegaze sounds of Sana Sana. Plus, we’ve got a few special surprises still under wraps. Holding it all together (and keeping things cute) are our hosts Andrea Bulding and Ivanna Palacio, with the magnetic S.3.R getting the party warmed up. We’re also thrilled to have the legendary 1-800-girlfriend hosting the festivities, anything they’re part of is gold. On the decks, Brayan Morales (aka Osito) will be on the 1s and 2s, with more DJs to be announced. Expect genre hopping sounds, beautiful people, and the kind of night that reminds you why Baby Dance exists in the first place. - Manny

SUNDAY:

EARLY: XQT x SEX EMO (7:00PM) <18+>

I listened to the new b7lanket album 3 times on the plane yesterday. Check out these whippersnappers along with a great bill but together by XQT - Eli
