Recently I published a video about my 3 years on YouTube, check it out at the bottom. There I talk more about how I handle multiple projects. And here I want to focus on whys.

At the same time, I have started a second channel @nature-around, but it's another topic.

There were several reasons. The first one is that I had some itch to change something. I got divorced a year before, I had more free time and it forced me to search for a way to express myself. One way was to work on my photography skills. But I also wanted to try something new and get out of my comfort zone.

I decided it would be nice to work on my communication skills, which was always my weak side. Talking to a camera is not the same as talking to the public, but turns out it helps. You expose yourself, potentially / hopefully to a large audience, it's scary. Of course, you can rerecord yourself several times, but it is always imperfect and you still should press this publish button. Then you see nothing bad happens, it gives confidence and somehow in real life too.

The other reasons are more practical.

I wanted to increase my social presence. I think it can help in case I'll search for a new job or sell my product. I'm a developer and when I act as an interviewer the candidate's YouTube is a plus. I know how much effort and courage it takes. The problem is with my first videos, they are freaky and it can work the opposite way. But I keep them as a reminder of the progress I made.

I wanted to be better in English. There is a lot of writing before I record, so it helps.

I wanted to share some of my knowledge and experiences. I do. I hope at some point it will help someone.

And of course, I dreamed of getting some money from it. This has not happened at the moment. But with my schedule of one video in 3 weeks I feel like I'm only at the beginning. So I keep dreaming :)

Some other good things I got from starting it.

I developed the technical skills - filming, and video editing. That can be useful for recording some courses for example.

I met interesting people along the way.

And I have this fulfillment feeling from self-realization, that I produce something and not only consume. Sometimes I have it at work as a programmer, when I create new systems. Yet, the more I create in different areas, the more life feels full and happier, though with more doubts and stress.

After all, it's an interesting game and I'll keep it going.
