This case study is on a quest to find a problem to solve: Startup X
It's never too early to review. Let's look back, briefly, on what we've done to date.
1) I started stressing that one of the questions you need to answer is Why now? Timing is a key, and casual, factor in startup success.
2) Then, following a combination of your own curiosity and the well-known Five Whys methodology, center your search on existing actions, events or processes related to the bigger context. (Our's is Global Trade).
Counter-intuitive practice: Ground your search for something new on something that already exists.
I've honestly told you that I've greatly compressed the timelines for my last search. That's one of the values of these case studies -- you learn without spending time on my pivots.
We've landed on an existing organization, The Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade, with the tag line of "Navigate the complexities of importing, exporting and customs, with the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade."
Key in the selection is an environment that we believe is rich in problems or opportunities to help solve problems. The above tag line points us to that.
Then we use the filter of accessibility to find an engagement point. One of my preferred engagement points is public events. Why? Because they are often free, reasonably accessible and put us in direct contact with potential contacts and their data.
What's our next step? Narrow our focus further still.
