Tom Bower’s new unauthorized biography, “Betrayal,” continues from his best-selling book “Revenge.” Both books reveal harsh truths about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In “Revenge,” Bower investigates Markle’s inconsistent origin story and the allegations made through media interviews (Oprah), publications (Spare), and documentaries (Netflix’s Harry & Meghan), which contributed to their discontent.
The book also portrays the prince unfavorably and highlights clear differences between these accounts and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.” The first book covers their relationship, Meghan’s marriage to Harry, their dealings with the British Royal family, conflicts with tabloids, “the trappings of Royal life,” and their desire for revenge.
“Betrayal” continues from where the first book left off and references it, as the events have become clearer in the overview. For casual Royal watchers, the drama between the Montecito Royals and the British Royal family can be as entertaining as episodes of The Real Housewives—except when they start interfering with government funding, which should be a cause for concern.
The book, which was like “Mission Impossible” to find it on the US market, but fortunately, Amazon began shipping UK copies to the States, is a no-holds-bar look at ex-royals and how their insistence on monetizing their British Royal connection by using their Royal titles, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, after initially scoffing at the idea of maintaining any Royal connections, now they are showing up for speaking engagements and monetizing their appearances. But if we were to believe what was reportedly offered as a bargaining chip, the relinquishing of their titles, why are they so insistent on using them? I guess it pays to be Royal.
