Among the many anecdotes shared throughout the biography that remained with me was that, when faced with difficult decisions, she would set her own feelings aside and consult her aides, asking, “What would the Queen do?” always putting duty above her own needs. When she was coronated on June 2, 1953, and proclaimed, “I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart, I shall strive to be worthy of your trust,” she meant every word of it.
Long live the memory of the late, great majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
