Welcome my sweet and cozy world. The only steamy thing in here is the coffee.
This is Skelly. We inherited him and his brother, Bonejangles, from a family friend before moving to South Carolina. He and his brother live in our home year-round. Skelly resides atop the games and puzzles shelf in the living room, and Bonejangles lives in another room near our home’s piano.
A few years ago, I started giving them headwear that switched out for the seasons, like a leprechaun hat for March, or patriotic headbands for July. Then I found an old football helmet from my husband’s childhood and Skelly asked to wear it. He was literally just asking for it. The shiny scarf is a bonus. Now he’s ready for NFL season!
How I Became an NFL Fan
I was a football widow until Peyton Manning, then-quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, hosted Saturday Night Live. By the end of the episode, I’d googled everything there was to know about him.
And the next day, much to everyone’s shock—especially my husband and dad—I was glued to the TV during the game. I asked questions. I paid attention. I made up my own terms and giggled at the real ones that sounded NSFW (not safe for work).
Soon I was watching NFL on Monday night, Thursday night, and all day Sunday. NFL season will start up again soon, and our house is already planning which TikTok recipes will make the cut for Monday and Thursday night dinners and Sunday suppers.
