Welcome my sweet and cozy world. The only steamy thing in here is the coffee.
"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from." —Seth Godin
Before moving to South Carolina, I loved to travel the East Coast of the U.S., even attending a mystery conference in Toronto, Canada. Now that I’m a permanent resident of The Palmetto State, I love staying home. Our small town has three indie coffee shops, and the public library is right down the street.
With the Libby app, so I don’t even need to leave home to get books—or to visit fictional worlds, including these five I want to visit for real.
Discworld - This series’ setting is a flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants standing on a giant turtle. It's wonderfully absurd and endlessly clever.
Narnia - A world where wardrobes lead to adventure, animals can hold conversations, and good still has a fighting chance. Just remember not to accept candy from any suspiciously fashionable queens.
The Shire - Second breakfast. Cozy cottages. Friendly neighbors. Rolling green hills. The biggest decision of the day is whether to have tea with your fellow hobbits before or after your afternoon nap. Honestly, it sounds less like fantasy and more like life goals.
Wonderland - Nothing makes sense, and somehow that’s exactly the point. I’d love to spend a day chatting with impossible characters, attending ridiculous tea parties (especially if the Mad Hatter could whip up a magical mocha latte).
Fantasia - Before The Neverending Story was a movie, it was a book. Regardless of your preference, it’s the kind of place that reminds you of why you fell in love with fictional places.
I know Minecraft was a game first, but books exist now, so I’m counting it. When my children convinced me to give the game a try, they generously had it in something described as creative mode. Nothing could kill my little blockhead. It was fun.
But then, those little rascals turned on survival mode. It’s as bad as it sounds. My blockhead died at the bottom of a cave. When he returned to life, he was somewhere else. All his hard-earned loot was in the bottom of the cave where he died.
I quit and never looked back. Blockhead’s loot is probably sit with his rotting, stinking corpse at the bottom of the cave, and it can stay there. 😂
So what fictional world(s) do you want to visit? Leave a comment to let me know!
Her dog saved his life. Now it’s his turn to protect what matters most.
Set against the salt-kissed shores of Pelican Cove, Protecting Peyton is a heart-racing tale of love, loyalty, and second chances. Don’t miss Healing Hawk, the second book in the series, which finds firefighter Nicole “Hawk” Hawkins facing an arsonist who has it out for her. And the third (and final) book in the series, Catching Callie, will be available in September!
The Guardians of the Heart series, this story is perfect for fans of sweet romantic suspense with Southern charm and heroic golden retrievers.
