The Richest Thing I've Ever Collected Was Perspective.

The Intentional Woman · AuJene'

I’ve met women in villages with no running water.

I’ve met billionaires in Beverly Hills.

I’ve shared meals with people who had almost nothing.

I’ve sat across from people who had everything money could buy.

The surprising part?

The human heart sounds the same everywhere.

The woman in Congo worried about her children.

The billionaire worried about her health.

One carried physical burdens.

The other carried emotional ones.

Neither was immune to being human.

Travel has taught me many things.

It’s taught me new languages.

New cultures.

New foods.

New ways of living.

But more than anything, it’s taught me that we have far more in common than we’ll ever have different.

Before I started traveling, I thought the world would feel divided.

Different countries.

Different religions.

Different politics.

Different customs.

What I found instead were people.

People who wanted to love and be loved.

People who wanted to provide for their families.

People who laughed at dinner tables.

People who cried behind closed doors.

People who hoped tomorrow would be a little better than today.

The details changed.

The hearts didn’t.

Perspective has a funny way of replacing assumptions with compassion.

One of the greatest gifts travel has given me isn’t a passport full of stamps.

It’s a heart that’s become harder to harden.

The more places I visit, the less interested I become in appearances.

I’ve learned that wealth doesn’t always look wealthy.

And poverty doesn’t always look poor.

I’ve met people with overflowing bank accounts and empty spirits.

I’ve met people with very little who radiated a joy that couldn’t be purchased.

Neither lifestyle guarantees peace.

Peace is something deeper.

It’s something you carry.

That’s why I no longer travel to collect countries.

I travel to collect perspective.

Every place I visit teaches me something about the world.

Every person I meet teaches me something about myself.

And every trip reminds me that no matter where we come from, every human being is carrying something unseen.

Maybe that’s why kindness matters so much.

You never really know what someone is walking through.

The stranger who seems distant may be grieving.

The person who appears successful may be exhausted.

The woman smiling across the room may be praying for a miracle.

The man serving your coffee may be trying to keep his family together.

We’re all fighting battles that don’t make it onto Instagram.

And maybe if we remembered that a little more often, we’d choose compassion before criticism.

I’ve learned that the most beautiful souvenirs aren’t the ones I bring home in my suitcase.

They’re the perspectives I carry home in my heart.

Those never stop changing me.

What’s one assumption about people that life has taught you to let go of?

If this resonated with you, subscribe and join me each week as we build beautiful lives with intention. I’d love to have you here.

With intention,

AuJené
