Audrey Le Goff · A Table in France

This Classic French Yogurt Cake, or “Gâteau au Yaourt,” is a moist, lightly sweet loaf cake made in one bowl, with pantry staples: yogurt, eggs, sugar, oil and flour. It’s the very first cake most French children learn to bake, and it’s still the one I turn to most when I want something simple, foolproof and delicious.

There’s no mixer required, no fancy technique, and no long ingredient list. You just need a good whisk, one bowl, and about ten minutes of hands-on time before it’s in the oven.

There are certain dishes that belong completely to one country that it’s hard to imagine them anywhere else. Lasagna is of course one of them. Ask someone to name an Italian dish, and lasagna would make the top three every time.

I love Provence. Truly, deeply. Marseille especially, with its brash charm on the coast. But somehow, in all my years of going back, I had never set foot in the Lubéron: the inland heart of Provence, the one you already know even if you’ve never been.
