Best Kept Secret - the new docuseries I produced, brought to you by 7AI - premieres on LinkedIn Live tomorrow on Audience 1st at 12pm Eastern and I want to tell you why it exists before you watch it.
Somewhere along the way, cybersecurity content got safe.
Like, UBER safe. Predictable. Beige.
The same talking heads, the same recycled threat stats, the same on-brand soundbites that don’t really make you feel anything.
We built an entire industry of content designed to be inoffensive and in doing so, we made it forgettable.
I didn’t want to add to that pile. I didn’t want more of the messy, boring middle.
Best Kept Secret is my answer to that.
The premise is simple:
The most interesting thing about a security leader is almost never their title or their tech stack.
It’s them.
Their decisions, their bets, the person behind the role that everyone in the organization leans on but almost no one actually knows.
So we go find out.
We get close.
Radically close.

Production: Audience 1st
I spent a day with Ravi Thatavarthy, CISO of Rite Aid and “interview” is the wrong word for what happened.
We hung out all day. And we had JUST met,
We talked about what it actually feels like to carry the weight of protecting a company that millions of people walk into every day.
The trade-offs nobody warns you about.
The moments of doubt, the moments of conviction and the very human reasoning underneath decisions that, on paper, look purely technical.
What struck me most was how quickly he felt comfortable and open to engaging in this immersive experience - touring Patriots Place and Gilette Stadium just outside of Boston.
There is absolute magic in human proximity.
Once you stop performing for the camera and start being with someone, you get the real thing - the texture, the contradictions, their most intimate stories.
Ravi is sharp, generous, and refreshingly honest, and the version of him you’ll meet tomorrow is the one his peers rarely get to see in public.
That’s the WHOLE point.
That’s the secret in Best Kept Secret.
Here’s what I’ve come to believe:
What earns trust with buyers now is human proximity.
The willingness to be a real human, in a real moment, without the corporate scaffolding.
When a buyer watches a CISO speak candidly, something shifts. They lean in. They recognize themselves. They believe what they’re seeing because it wasn’t manufactured to be believed.
This works because it’s the opposite of the echo chamber many of my peers in the marketing and sales space are in.
We’re not putting people on a stage to repeat the consensus.
We’re getting out of the room entirely and immersing in an actual experience.
The future isn’t more content. It’s more closeness.
Whether the medium is analog or digital, a stage or a screen, the differentiator is the same:
How close can you get to the human on the other side?
Everyone has access to the same tools, the same data, the same playbooks.
The one thing that can’t be commoditized is genuine human connection captured honestly and shared generously in the most trusted networks.
That’s the bet I’m making with this series.
Not louder. Not glossier. Closer.
Closeness is the differentiator among all other things and in a sea of beige, it’s the only thing that’s going to stand out.
