Hiya.
Tomorrow, May 16th, we have a New Moon in Taurus, which is something we all need very much right now, so use it, enjoy it, and build on the stabilizing potential of it. This New Moon is acting like a meeting place between what we feel we must do now now NOW, and the fresh, unexpected connections we could make if we pause this weekend to appreciate what we already have and get to the simple, graspable the truth what we actually need. You are likely to find that you already have most of what you think you lack, or you need less than you’ve been estimating- both realizations lead to a deeper sense of security and stablity.
TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
Taurus is about our security, solidity, and sustainability. It’s the part of us that experiences our naturalness through the experience of our five (or six) senses. Steven Forrest calls the energy of Taurus our “inner animal” which says a lot about how our comfort and security come largely from paying attention to and respecting our instinct.
For the last seven years, Uranus moved through Taurus, making sure we understand that the forms and structures of our world are changing- that the things we have relied on for a long time are now unreliable and need updating, so our minds need to open to new ways of thinking, seeing ourselves, seeing our world. Uranus is now in Gemini, the sign of perception, asking us: What do you suddenly see differently? What do you now feel and experience in new ways?
My suggestion for this New Moon is to ask yourself what part of your physical support system and mental structures need your attention. Start with your bodily senses- this is where we start to connect with and capture the Truth. Then go to the mind and see what thoughts or perceptions are connected to those bodily senses. Those thoughts will likely be the quieter ones, the ones that feel inexplicably connected to the body senses. Those thoughts are the truthful thoughts. This New Moon in Taurus is supporting us to pay attention to this body-mind system of instinctive knowing, which is one of the most valuable pieces of our inner GPS. It gets over-ridden far too often.
Spend this weekend being like an animal in nature- pick an animal and do what it does. Let yourself become aware of your most basic needs and resources and connect with them- I mean this in the most literal, basic way: savor the drink of water hydrating your mouth and throat, go outside and really smell the air, savor the feeling of sinking into bed. Taurus is about simplicity, so make it simple for yourself- no complex mental gymnastics or analytical explanations. Taurus is concrete, basic, simple, and straightforward. Natural.
TAKING CARE OF OTHERS
Venus, the planet of connection, beauty, balance, and heart-centered giving-receiving, is in Gemini- And Venus has everything to do with Taurus. So here are some ideas for you regarding this weekend’s Taurus New Moon:
What new, intentional thoughts can make your relationships and resources feel more stable?
What things in your life do you mistakenly think need to stay unchanged/ just-as-is, but really are better-off being replaced or reiterated?
Where can you see new connections and be curious about forming new alliances?
Where in your life can you improvise in new, playful, curious ways?
Are you communicating what you value, and have your values been appropriately updated so that you can build on them?
In medical astrology, Taurus has to do with the throat and the voice- we’re being invited to tend to the structures that allow our ideas and communication to flow. Taurus and its ruler Venus also have to do with money, and our most basic resources. We need our support systems to be stable in order to transact and receive resources. Transaction, giving and receiving, is Gemini’s territory; the structure to support that transaction is Taurus’s territory. First the basic structure must be strong, then the flow is smooth and abundant.
WHERE THIS NEW MOON IS ASKING YOU TO TAKE A MOMENT…
Aries
Your house of money, possessions, and self-worth is being stabilized by this New Moon, firming up the foundation for what you’re building. Have you been slogging through the idea of “real security” actually means? It may have felt like a moving target for someone with your pioneering spirit… If there’s new approach to earning, saving, or investing that you’ve come across, this might be a solid path. Building stability can actually compliment your need for autonomy and action. What solid small step can you take this week to establish more financial stability? Your relationship with money and “what you have” must also support your need for independence, so what does this kind of reliable security like like in practical terms? In dollars signs?
Taurus
The ground beneath you has been shifting for seven years, but you’ve steadied yourself, and not without great effort, often begrudging the whole uncomfortable process. I will guess that you’ve had a challenging ride… probably been forced to rebuild your sense of self from the ground up. But good news! You’re now standing on much more authentic ground. What do you now feel able to do and say that didn’t seem possible before? What do you see as true about what you value on the most basic level- what you own, what you want in life? It’s as if a new personality has been emerging inside you- have you shared it with others? This New Moon is asking you to stop hiding the person you’ve become and start living with tested confidence and new clarity.
Gemini
You’re encouraged to slow down and get grounded and quiet the mental chatter. You've been gathering information and ideas for months- what wisdom has sunk into your body? What spiritual practices or inner knowing have you discovered that help you move from overthinking into genuine intuitive clarity? This New Moon is giving you simple, reliable access your inner guidance system, instead of getting caught in endless mentalizing loops. Would you consider taking some small steps toward establishing a foundational daily practice to stay connected to your deeper knowing?
Cancer
The New Moon is highlighting the importance of your reliable friend networks, feel-good community, and supporting your long-term goals. “New values” (which I think you’ve been cultivating) often mean realizing new desires and new goals- what do you want to build and who do you want to build it with? It’s perfectly okay if what you want today looks nothing like what you’re “supposed to be doing” or what others think you’re up to. In fact, it would be unnatural if you didn’t have a whole new life strategy cooking! Out with it and get the support you need. Who are the people who celebrate your evolving dreams rather than trying to keep you in the box of who they’re used to you being?
Leo
The New Moon is occurring in your 10th house of career, status, and leadership responsibilities. What’s all yours to start building and taking seriously, both for the strength of your mission and for the security of those who depend on you? There are simple leadership steps to be taken- what are they? (Remember, the only step you can take is the next best step.) Chin up, shoulders back, chest out- it’s step up/speak up time for you. By the way, if what you’re up against doesn’t ask you to be bolder, to feel unsure and a little vulnerable, then I’m not sure it’s a strong enough mission for you.
Virgo
The New Moon is shaping a new beginning in what you believe, the vision you set for yourself, and how you want to journey, both literally and ideologically. What do you envision and believe in that seems so practical and straightforward now, but is actually quite a new place to be coming from given who you are and where you’ve been? What’s changed in your perspective? What’s a new foundational faith or confidence you’re starting to take steps from? It’s okay if your vision seems like a real departure from where you predicted your desires would lead you- go toward the vision that gives you both excitement in your mind and a tingle in your gut. What ambition is your practical side actually ready to go for?
Libra
This New Moon is lighting up issues in your shared resources, offering you basic steps to take toward a rebirth of trust, and strengthening the deepest bonds you share with loved ones. Contracts and money might be part of this love language. What are some simple truths you can be honest about when it comes to what you need to feel safe and trust another human being? Maybe it’s time to trust your senses and your feelings, rather than ask for some sort of mental or analytical truth. Remember “trusting your inner voice?” Try that. What does your gut tell you about who deserves access to your deepest, most precious secrets?
Scorpio
The New Moon is taking place in your equal relationships, one-to-one social contracts- this weekend highlights all the ways you bridge harmoniously with others. Is it time to just get basic and simple and straightforward with your partner? Can you just say what it is that you want? Can you start to make things more simple between you and just directly state your updated values? It’s okay if your values, desires, and needs have changed (it’s called evolution.) You’ve got to let the people that matter know. Period. What conversation have you been avoiding that would actually bring you closer to someone you care about?
Sagittarius
This New Moon is taking place in the way you take care of others and the way you devote yourself to service. Issues around mentorship, the way you serve others in the most basic ways, the skills you rely on, and your daily routines. What do you need to start implementing, the new basic strategies, step-by-step, day by day, hour by hour? What have you been making far too complicated in your day-to-day? How could you help yourself by just taking a few small-but-new dutiful steps? Aslo, instead of you serving your resources, how could you have your resources serve you? What simple daily practices would make everything else in your life feel more manageable?
Capricorn
This New Moon is occurring in the way you relate to your creativity, pleasure, and sense of playfulness. Have you been working so hard and not stopping to smell the roses, play Scrabble, dance in the kitchen, have a glass of rosé? Can you see the BodyMindSpirit value of spending three hours to make a beautiful home-cooked meal, or does that seem like a waste of precious work time? What about regular encounters with pleasure- do you have enough? And are you aware that laughter is a critical resource for your productivity and well-being? How have you been treating the lighter side of life like a luxury instead of a necessity?
Aquarius
This New Moon is grounding you in appreciation of the basics of your home and family, your sense of security, your inner landscape, and your most intimate connections. Are you allowing your domestic environment and those who inhabit it to be a source of nurture and nourishment, not unlike a tree relies on the soil, sun, and rain? Can you come home to yourself, come out of the mental realm of analysis and strategizing and forging your original path, and settle yourself like a dog in the sun, at home? You need this naturalness now. Where in your physical space can you create a sanctuary that feels like a nest, a sacred space, a healing cocoon?
Pisces
This New Moon is happening for you in the part of your life that has something to SAY, the part of you that perceives, that wants to express in words, pictures, colors. This New Moon is grounding you in the knowing that by itself, thinking will steer you WAY off-course. You need to feel the truth. I suggest you sing a lot this weekend- get in the car or the shower and literally work your throat chakra, open and expand your voice. What are you ready to say? Your body will confirm the truth of what that is. What truth have you been feeling in your bones that you haven’t found the courage to speak yet?

ASK AUBREY
Speaking of questions, I’m starting a new series called “Ask Aubrey” where I address your most urgent, nagging, burning questions. Think astrologer-meets-advice columnist-meets feng shui expert-meets-designer-meets-relationship whiz-meets-Mr. Rogers…
Here’s the thing. I love solving problems, giving advice, getting to the bottom of things, finding creative solutions, discovering alternate paths… SO can I help you see something in a new way? Can I help shed some light on something that’s bothering you, confusing you, bugging you, keeping you up at night? The thing about advice when it comes to me dishing it out, is the guidance I give has much more to do with the lenses I use to look at issues, than with me as the guidance-giver wearing the lenses. You’d be amazed at the way questions/issues/problems/challenges can be sorted out using a combination of all of my tools.
What’s your most challenging issue when it comes to: • Parenting with astrology • Getting fit in midlife • Career transitions • Finding your way through difficult mental health times • Understanding your relationships • Creating financial stability
Send me your questions—I’ll answer them in upcoming posts or during our live Q&A sessions.
WHAT I’M READING
The world we live in is bringing up questions for everyone about our humanity vs. digital technology, or for some, our humanity WITH digital technology.
On that note, I’ve decided to reread Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It seems timely. A classic book published in 1818 about the arrogance and responsibility of scientific/technological/creative power, about how we ethically deal with what we have created, and how we approach what seems monstrous with either exiling judgment vs. wonder and curiosity. I think this book, from what I remember, is actually about what human connection really means at its core…? Re-reading will help me remember the themes. Anyway, I have the feeling it will be a richer read than it was when I was 16.
