Today I have the final cover reveal for MythFall, which features Rika.
Rika is a take on a femme fatale archetype and she’s the viewpoint character for this issue, so we thought it would be fitting to make a pin up style cover for her.
Interior artist Allie Preswick hit it out of the park with this one:
We based it on her scene from issue 1 where she’s getting ready for work, so it takes place right before the start of Issue 2.
Demystifying the femme fatale trope has always been interesting to me. Beauty — or any face we present to the world — is constructed, not an accident. It’s part performance, part expression, and part armor. That’s why I wanted to introduce Rika by having her apply her makeup. It’s a peek behind the curtain into how she achieves her poise. As a bodyguard, she’s a physically powerful character but she doesn’t sacrifice her femininity or her heart because those are also sources of strength.
