NFX recently shared an excellent piece on women’s health investing: Women’s Health 2.0: Beyond Fertility.
Despite representing half the population, only ~2% of VC funding targets female-specific conditions. The result? A massive market inefficiency. With advances in AI, biotech platforms, and a cultural shift redefining women’s health beyond fertility, this space is poised for exponential growth.
Other than longevity, NFX argues women’s health is the biggest undervalued market in healthcare today.
A well-known biotech investor paying attention to women’s health is a major signal.
AthenaDAO is teaming up with HackAging.AI to launch a women’s longevity track at their upcoming Agentic AI Against Aging Hackathon in San Francisco.
Some of the biggest names in AI and longevity drug discovery will be judges as well as participants, including Dr. Peter Fedichev of Gero.AI (yes, the one that we are partnered with and recently inked a deal with Roche’s Chugai). As well as Sam Altman-backed RetroBIO, who very recently announced their collaboration with OpenAI on using GPT-4b for protein engineering of reprogramming factors.
Needless to say, we are excited to be part of this exciting event designing the women’s longevity stream. LifeAhead - the menopause forecast tool - is also coming on board to advise and guide on challenges for ovarian aging data sets.
We’ll explore:
Personalized MHT Agent: Matching therapies with explainable AI decision-support.
Early Risk Screeners: Multimodal detection for osteoporosis, CVD, and AD risk post-menopause.
Economic Impact of Menopause: Quantifying health, productivity, and workforce outcomes
Personalized Milestone Models: Better predictions of menopausal transitions
Please note that Gero.AI and RetroBio will be looking for talent. If ML, data science, computational biology, or longevity is one of your specialties, this is a massive opportunity.
On the other side of the ocean, we are also participating as judges and mentors for a 36-hour intensive hackathon targeting the two biggest challenges in women’s health: the healthspan gap and reproductive aging crisis.
Women don’t just live longer - they age completely differently. The hackathon, taking place in London, has four tracks:
Healthspan Gap Solutions
Reproductive Longevity
Cross-Track Innovation
Implementation & Access
The objective is to have potential new companies being created!
