Subvert: to secretly or actively undermine, weaken, or overthrow an established system, authority, institution, or set of ideas from within.
We talked about subversion in this week’s call for Whale Song, and afterwards, Krista and I had a conversation about whether or not female friendships are subversive. Do they help us “undermine, weaken, or overthrow” the patriarchy? Are they threatening to the patriarchy and that’s why they are often undermined?
