Our Luminary Wordbank social breaks down complex social justice, disability justice, and anti-discrimination concepts into easy-to-understand terms for kids.

But who are we kidding? Most of us had to learn these piecemeal, as adults. Luckily it’s accessible for old fogies like us, too.

Many kiddos gain basic use of their hands (and feet!) around 4-6 months, making this a great time to let kids explore textures and shapes.

Books should be small, thin, durable ,and light weight so they can hold books and explore pages without difficulty. This is not the time for thin flaps, expensive material, or riveting storylines.

These will be in your kiddo’s mouth more than thier hands, so choose material that can be chewed, licked, and easily washed or wiped down.

For your kiddo’s delight and validation, subjects should read more like a simple bulleted list of 4-6 every day objects rather than a storyline. To be honest - the content of the book matters far less than the material and textures within it.
