Hello there 👋

I was thinking about my time in the ‘corporate world’ recently because

I met up with a few of my ex-colleagues for coffee and I was SHOCKED what they told me:

“You know Seb, it took me ages to realize who you were when we first started working together”

I was filled with embarrassment and a little hurt (I’m over it now😂)

I spent so much time in the early days of my career to:

  • Do as good a job as possible

  • Give attention to detail on tasks

  • Deliver projects on time

How could they not know who I was?

Was I THAT forgettable??

The truth is…

I was.

This was me in 2012 during a team event.

At the back

Completely forgettable… 🙈

When I speak to people as a charisma coach, they want to be able to:

  • Stand out for the RIGHT reasons

  • Speak confidently in meetings

  • Deliver dazzling presentations

I 100% get it and my career took a completely different direction once I was able to become more memorable

The problem is that 99% of people are on Mental Auto-Pilot

They are just going through the motions to get through the interaction

If you are on autopilot then you are NOT PRESENT

If you cannot be present in the moment then you cannot be memorable.

Think of a meeting you attended, did you:

  • Keep to yourself

  • Not engage with the chairman

  • Sat quietly

  • Didn’t contribute to the agenda

  • Not participate in chit-chat

This is because you were on Mental Auto Pilot

You wanted to get in, take the information required, and get back to your flooding inbox

To be memorable its going to take effort and getting out of your comfort zone

To become more memorable in meetings you do not need to be loud, and be the centre of attention

All you need to do is make a few behaviour tweaks to ensure you are being remembered but for the RIGHT reasons

  1. When you enter a meeting make a point to initiate conversations with key people of influence

  2. Make eye contact. Hold it.

  3. Smile. Engage with attendees by asking questions

  4. Contribute to meetings by giving opinions, advice, or asking questions

  5. Engage in office chit-chat before and after the meeting

Being conscious about doing these simple steps may seem trivial, but they are the positive triggers that keep you from slipping back into your ocean of thoughts and being sucked into auto-pilot.

Remember

Small hinges swing big doors, and being a little more intentional about how you turn up, can have a disproportionate impact on how memorable you become to others.

By being an active contributor in meetings, rather than a passenger

You will become more memorable

I have loved putting together this week’s newsletter!

And I have a question for you f you got to all the way to the end of this,

If you could speak confidently in meetings, how would that change your career?

I am interested to see your responses,

You just need to reply to this email and I will respond to every one!

In the meantime, I’ll speak to you next week 😊

Kind regards
