Every month, we’ll read a work of classic fashion philosophy and talk about how it applies to what we wear today. You can hear the first half for free, and the second half if you become a paying subscriber.

There was a lot of outrage over this year’s Met Gala — and for good reasons. When it was revealed that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were this year’s lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs, many felt this was yet another example of tech oligarchs buying their way into American institutions, if not trying to launder their reputations through cultural prestige.
