5 Modern Ways to Wear a Brooch
The biggest shift in brooch styling isn’t where they’re being worn. It’s how many.
For decades, a brooch was a singular statement piece, carefully pinned to the lapel of a blazer or coat. Today’s styling is much less precious. Designers are layering, clustering, and scattering brooches across outfits, treating them almost like jewelry for your clothes.
If there’s one rule to modern brooch styling, it’s this: one is lovely, but three is where things get interesting.
1. Cluster on a Lapel
Forget the single brooch centered on a lapel. Instead, group three or more brooches together, mixing shapes, textures, metals, and sizes. The result feels collected rather than coordinated, and gives even the simplest blazer instant personality.

2. Give Your Beret Some Personality
A beret is charming on its own. A beret decorated with a cluster of brooches feels straight out of Paris Fashion Week. Pin them off to one side, mixing vintage-inspired florals with sculptural gold pieces or crystals for an effortlessly artistic look.

3. High-Low Denim
One of our favorite styling tricks is pairing ornate brooches with everyday denim. A vintage brooch pinned to a denim jacket or even a favorite pair of jeans creates the perfect high-low contrast. It’s unexpected, playful, and even better clustered in a group. More is more.

4. Form Meets Function
Brooches aren’t just decorative. They’re surprisingly practical. Use one to secure a scarf instead of tying it, instantly creating a polished drape while adding a sculptural focal point. It’s equal parts jewelry and styling hack.

5. Replace the Buttons
One of the freshest ideas we’ve seen is using oversized brooches over the button placket of a vest or cardigan. Instead of disappearing into the garment, the closure becomes the statement. It’s a small detail that completely changes the look.
