As I write this I have a persistent, low-level headache, like a whine in my skull. It’s plagued me for three days, and doesn’t seem to respond to painkillers or entreaties for it to fuck off.
But going to the doctor for a shitty little headache seems like overkill. What can they actually do? Last time I had an excruciating headache, it was much worse than this: I pulled out the big guns and went to A&E but it turned out to be due to caffeine withdrawal.
(The doctor didn’t diagnose this; she just looked in my eyes with a torch and told me it definitely wasn’t a brain tumour, which was reassuring for this hypochondriac. I worked out the caffeine withdrawal thing later, because I’d recently stopped drinking massive frappés, and owwww, it was hell.)
I described that headache as “the headache to end all headaches”, so I’m confused as to why I’ve got another one.
