A great hike to explore the Sierra Nevada region next to Granada, with it’s grassy mountains, and incredible views.
Route Overview
- Start: Trevélez (1,476 m)
- Summit: Pico de Fuentefría (2,294 m)
- Optional Return: Peñabón (2,012 m)
- Distance: 13 km (full route) / 9 km (returning at Peñabón)
- Elevation Gain: ~1,000 m (full route) / ~700 m (returning at Peñabón)
- Estimated Time: 5–6 hours (full route) / 3–4 hours (returning at Peñabón)

Route
The hike begins in Trevélez, climbing on a rocky path through pastures and a foresty area, giving a great view from above of the different barios of Treveléz. At Peñabón (2,012m), you can turn back for a shorter 9km route. Continuing to Pico de Fuentefría (2,294m) adds 4 km and 300m of elevation. The summit gives a great view of the main valley of the Alpujarra area.
Difficulty
The paths are rocky, but not very steep. With some sturdy footwear this hike is very good doable.
