A live iso image based on Archlinux running MangoWM window manager
Just updated ArchBang iso image, latest kernel and packages no major changes. Am working on a fourth bang version code named GreenBANG. Been a busy couple of weeks. Was away the last two weekends so didn t get much done on ISO images. So decided to update all three images: MiniBang [sugar free], ArchBang [some candy but too heavy] and Fruitbang [full sugar version]. FruitBang includes an interesting extra feature: DANK Material Shell. It handles a lot of ... Not one iso image but three!
Have been updating look and theme of MiniBANG, it looked awful if I am totally honest. It was a bit of a rushed together image and it was more about proof of concept. Have not used i3 titling window manager for many years, went over to Wayland and sway and never looked back. So it ... Making MiniBANG more pretty .
It all started when a user contacted me about ArchBang and asked if it would run on an old laptop with 1Gb of ram. At that low ram level things are going to go south very quickly, let alone try and run a full desktop and firefox. So I decided to come up with a ... Minibang, let me explain .
I like Omarchy more for the look and theming rather than the huge ISO image. So I thought, why not bring that over to ArchBang — basically have a themed ArchBang that kind of looks like Omarchy. Had thought about adding a pacman menu via rofi, but it just felt so wrong to use it ... Mid Summer ArchBang Release
Am building a new iso image, mostly updated packages and kernel. Have added Opencode AI agent which is a cli based application that could be useful for some if you already have used ai or wish to test it out. Well ArchBang since Wednesday s release has had over a thousand downloads, which is amazing thank you 😉 Arch has released kernel 7.1 so have updated iso image to run it, other than that it is just packages updates. Pleased to announce the release of ArchBang running the MangoWM window manager. This marks a full rebrand from FruitBang back to ArchBang. Just a quick update . Have started the rebrand for Fruitbang to ArchBang. Iso image will look and run with Mango rather than Labwc. Still testing image but hope to release on July 1st. Then once everyone is happy can start to make changes towards an Autumn release [mostly theme/look/wallpaper]. Think running with the name ArchBang ... Fruitbang is now ArchBang
Have had a GUI installer itch for a long time. Always avoided it as I am not a real fan of the whole point-and-click installer thing. That said, a lot of new users can be intimidated by a text-only terminal application that has no real feedback. The mainstream distro installers are huge to say the ... Anyone like a GUI installer in FruitBANG?
