I know a girl who loves dinosaurs.
So much so that when she sleeps, she snores
And sounds just like a carnivore
Chasing after a wild boar.
I know a boy who always falls out of bed.
It’s a miracle he never hits his head.
He never wakes, he sleeps like the dead
Curled up on the ground, wrapped in his bedspread.
I know a kid who loves basketball
His feet hang off the bed because he’s so tall.
He can never get comfortable, not at all
So he sleepwalks, dribbling, up-and-down the hall.
I know a gramps who’s golf-obsessed.
When he gets a bogey, he’s so depressed
He takes a nap to relieve the stress,
And dreams of better putting finesse.
I know a grandma who worries a lot.
The wellbeing of her family is always in her thoughts.
She tries to sleep through the night, but she cannot —
Feeling distraught about possible plots.
I know a guy who can sleep anywhere.
In a car or a plane, on a couch or a chair.
In the middle of a conversation, you’ll become aware
That he wasn’t listening, he was just snoozing there.
I’m a night owl, I stay up late.
Reading and writing well past eight.
Some productive alone time always feels great,
But in the morning, sleep procrastination leaves me feeling sedate.
I’ve known a lot of people that talk in their sleep.
And when it’s so quiet at night there’s not even a peep,
You’ll suddenly hear a voice, it gives you the creeps
And turn to see them lying there, still counting sheep.
