Weeknotes 2025-W47 › Working on two new papers [01IZ]

I am working on two new papers for intended for submission in the new year, one with my student Lingyuan Ye and another by myself. The latter has been interesting, but I have to admit that I am not certain if the results are enough to warrant the publication venue I am going for—it is more of an incremental result over my prior work, but one of the reasons I’m bothering to write a whole paper is that my understanding of the topic has improved a lot and I believe I can therefore do a far better job explaining it.

We often forget that publications have two purposes: one is to inform the community of new results, and the other is to propagandise new and better ways of thinking. A good publication is some mix of the two, but not every paper ends up perfectly balanced in these respects. We’ll see what happens.
