Make Way for the New

Nintendo Co. Ltd. unveiled a new line of Nintendo 64 consoles yesterday in Japan that are sure to rake in the cash when they finally hit retail shelves. The new systems are entirely Pokemon enhanced, as you can see from the photographs we've provided. A plastic Pikachu now engulfs the right half of the slightly altered Nintendo 64 units, with the cartridge slot nudged noticeably to the left. The regular Nintendo 64 power button has been replaced with a Pokeball and a new Pokemon header shines proudly on the front end of the consoles. Oh -- and did we mention that Pikachu's feet act as the reset button and his cheeks light up red when you turn the power on?

No ¿ we're not joking.

The consoles, which come in two colors (pictured below) ¿ orange and blue ¿ are set to debut in Japan July 21 of this year with a suggested retail price of 14,000 yen (or approximately $132 US).

The official word from Nintendo is that the units will be released "overseas" by the end of the year, so US Pokemaniacs should probably keep a few slots open on your holiday shopping list.
