Coding fever

On Monday, I started a speedrun cleaning up the modernization issue queue for the freistilbox infrastructure code. I was fed up with our team running into roadblocks all the time. So I rolled up my mental sleeves and got to work. I tackled one infra cookbook after another, adding support for new versions of Ubuntu and CINC, addressing issues as they emerged. The result: 18 merge requests in a single week. And after watching a video about Angie today (I've had the Rolling Stones playing in my head ever since), I built an equivalent to our existing nginx cookbook in about 90 minutes. It's amazing to see how much you can do in so little time when you set your mind to it. Considering how long I'd been putting these updates off, it's also a bit embarrassing.

So near and still so far

On Wednesday morning, we'll be off to Borkum, one of Germany's little North Sea islands. Two weeks of allowing myself to only do what I want (which might even include work) will do me good. Ironically, tying up all the loose ends before leaving caused my stress levels to rise this week. Hyper-focusing on infra coding didn't really help in that regard.

Speaking of rising

We had to raise our hosting fees for a second time in three months after Hetzner put another price hike into effect, roughly doubling our infra cost for new orders. Markus wondered if it was just him, or if we're actually getting more requests for quotes since we increased our prices. If so, there's another delay I could slap myself for.

Not enough time in Ada(y)

Work on my Podmander project had to take a back seat this week. But at least I got a PRD for Btrfs snapshot management filed. It'll simplify restoring and migrating Podman volumes between nodes.
