IRISH HISTORY:
The course in Irish history explores Ireland’s past through a Gaelic lens. Beginning with prehistoric Ireland, it traces the Celtic roots of Irish civilization, the impact of the Vikings and the Norman invasion, and the ensuing struggle between Gaelic and Anglo-Irish cultures that culminated in the devastation of the Great Famine. The modern period examines the formation of Irish America and the Gaelic Revival it produced, culminating in the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence, and the establishment of the Irish Free State.
