There is a version residing at "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jucheck.exe" -- size 422K (Windows 7) published by Sun Microsystems that is a legitimate checker to see if you have the latest Java version. If you do not need Java, you can uninstall it or also you can disable the automatice update feature in the settings. Java is not critical to Windows but may be required by some applications.

We have received a brand new laptop from Dell with Windows 7 Home Premium on it. UAC reports jucheck.exe running from "C:\Windows\System32\jucheck.exe". This seems contrary to the information available here.

Its coming up crashed Sims 3 a couple of times. I set it to not notify about 5 times. I finally gave up and just uninstalled Java from my system.

I located it in a different Java sun folder besides another jucheck.exe it's digital signature was from aidex i tried deleting it from a temp folder but going into this java floder and finding the unknown publisher one and removing it seemed to get rid of it

No this is NOT a java updater.Anything with the name juchuck.exe and jucheck.exe is a virus pretending to be a java updater. I just recently had to deal with removing this nightmare!If you dont believe me first notice how the user of it is UNKNOWN.Red flag right there.Secondly java does NOT need your permission to check for updates unless you change the setting manually.So this should also send up a red flag.The proper java update device is..um i forgot but if you press ctrl shift esc you can see it in the running programs section.My point is that its a virus that is hard to detect.
   
Unless the publisher is Java, then it's a virus. People are so quick to think people are dumb and not know what jucheck.exe is, but it is actually a virus that uses the same name. Click more details on the popup and see where the file is. If it's not in a Java folder, then it's a virus.

Found it in C:/Windows/Prefetch. Since it's not hiding itself, and is visible, and it won't let you not download it, then it is most likey needed in order to have Java. Scanned it just now. It isn't hidden, no suspicion, nor detection. Seems fine.

As of 4/9/2013, the serious security venerability in version 7 update 7 still hasn't been fixed. Java is at currently at 7 update 14. I have disabled Java until it is fixed as has been recoomend by the US government. Firefox has built in blocking java into it's software.
