MSX Association is a private organization originating from an assembly of people with affinity with the MSX standard, a uniform 8 bit personal computer standard presented by ASCII and Microsoft in 1983. It was founded in Japan in February 2002 in order to manage the copyrights of all sorts of the MSX system. At the moment, its main activity consists of the development and promotion of the official emulator 'MSXPLAYer'.

MSX Association's main activities
  • Management of all sorts of copyrights related to MSX (e.g. BIOS, trademarks, etc.)

  • Development and testing of the official emulator 'MSXPLAYer'

  • Excavation of various properties from the past, such as technical data and commercial soft- and hardware

  • Negotiations with owners of rights from software development companies

  • Plan proposal and cooperation in collecting data for various media, like publications


The organization of MSX Association
  • Kazuhiko Nishi, who is the inventor of the MSX standard and the current holder of various copyrights related to MSX, is the president of the organization.

  • There is a board of directors directly under the president, which consists of a number of people who are also related to software developers, which is engaged in decision-making.

  • Concrete activities, like the testing of the official emulator 'MSXPLAYer' and the preparation of related documents are done by a volunteer staff.

  • At the moment, there is no concrete organization staff inaugurated yet. It's something MSX Association will start thinking about in the near future.
