In August, the Beasley Best Community of Caring initiative will spotlight Back-to-School Safety Month, helping families prepare for a safe and successful school year. We’ll share tips on pedestrian and bus safety, online and social media awareness, and creating healthy routines, all while encouraging drivers to stay alert in school zones to protect students as they head back to class.
- School zone speed limits: Speeding in school zones endangers children; slowing down and following posted limits is essential to keep students safe.
- Bus safety matters: Children are most at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus; drivers must always stop for buses with extended stop arms.
- Pedestrian injuries: Nearly 15,000 children ages 5–18 are injured each year in pedestrian-related incidents, highlighting the need for crosswalk awareness and safe walking practices.
- Bike safety essentials: Children should always wear properly fitted helmets when biking to school; helmets reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85%.
- Digital safety counts too: As kids head back to class, parents should talk with them about online safety—setting rules for social media, apps, and internet use helps protect against cyberbullying and online predators.
