• Biber 2.22 compiled to WebAssembly
    by /u/fabawi on August 22, 2026 at 9:22 am

Biber 2.22 now runs in WASM in BusyTeX/TeXlyre. Most of the Biber porting to WASM was AI-assisted/generated. However, getting it to work was hellish, given that almost every LLM tries to shelf this as impractical or extremely difficult to do, but being stubborn (or naïve) I kept trying anyway. WebPerl has already compiled Perl to WASM, but Biber could not run within it, since WebPerl disables dynamic loading, while Biber depends on a number of XS modules (Perl modules containing native code). These usually gets compiled and loaded by Perl during install, but for WASM, they instead have to be cross-compiled and linked into Perl. The build uses a native Perl to generate the XS C sources, then compiles them with the wasm32 Perl and links the native dependencies statically. This was already discussed by "Vadim Kantorov, the original BusyTeX author, in 2020". He considered "perlcc" and WebPerl and got as far as investigating and attempting a fully static Perl/Biber dependency build, but it did not result in a working Biber WASM build as far as I can tell. There was also a "recent r/LaTeX post running Biber in the browser with CheerpX". CheerpX runs the existing x86/Linux Biber through its WebVM backend. Instead, this buil compiles Perl and Biber's native dependencies to wasm32 directly, so Biber runs as part of the WASM LaTeX compilation without a full x86/Linux runtime in the browser. You can try it out in r/TeXlyre or using the Biber demo on https://texlyre.github.io/texlyre-busytex submitted by /u/fabawi [link] [comments]

  • Looking for big .tex source files (math/physics papers or books) to benchmark formatters
    by /u/DungAkira on August 21, 2026 at 4:26 pm

Hi all, I'm testing/benchmarking a few LaTeX formatting tools — latexindent, tex-fmt, and badness. I'm specifically looking for: Full .tex source (not just compiled PDFs) for math or physics papers/books/lecture notes. Ideally longer or more complex documents (nested environments, big equation blocks, tikz, tables, etc.). In particular, the compiled PDF should be at least 500 pages. Many thanks! submitted by /u/DungAkira [link] [comments]

  • IhateLaTeX: An offline, browser-based no-code alternative to Overleaf for building quick LaTeX CVs
    by /u/someshjoyguru on August 21, 2026 at 4:15 pm

We all love LaTeX for its typography, but sometimes setting up a local TeX environment or dealing with cloud compilation timeouts just to update a CV bullet point is overkill. I created IhateLaTeX as a lightweight, client-side alternative. It compiles standard templates directly in the browser offline, completely removing the need for a cloud connection or local installation. It's mainly targeted at people who want LaTeX output without the syntax headache, but I'd love to know what the power-users here think of the generated output! submitted by /u/someshjoyguru [link] [comments]

  • Need help with an Overleaf / LaTeX resume?
    by /u/Unique-Violinist6952 on August 21, 2026 at 1:00 pm

Hi everyone! I’ve been working with Overleaf and LaTeX and am looking to take on a few small resume/CV projects to build my practical experience. I can help with: Creating a resume from existing information Converting a Word/PDF resume into an editable LaTeX/Overleaf version Fixing LaTeX/Overleaf formatting issues Improving spacing, alignment, typography, and overall layout Creating a clean, professional CV Adjusting formatting for a particular job or industry Providing the editable LaTeX source If you already have a resume but feel that the formatting or layout could be improved, I’d be happy to work with the information you already have. I’m currently looking to build my portfolio through a few real-world projects, so I’m keeping the scope flexible. I can also share examples of my previous work privately if you’d like to see them. submitted by /u/Unique-Violinist6952 [link] [comments]

  • Why do these two LaTeX PDFs have noticeably different font rendering?
    by /u/Fair_County_8581 on August 21, 2026 at 11:44 am

Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand a font-rendering difference between two PDFs generated from LaTeX (modern class notes - https://ctan.org/pkg/modernclassnotes) https://preview.redd.it/ubzbv9ezspkh1.png?width=1892&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d00e34b966613ed500661e53c8bef2860243938 The PDF on the left is the original PDF I downloaded from the original package. The PDF on the right is generated by me locally from the LaTeX source. The source produces essentially the same layout and content, but the text rendering looks noticeably different. I actually prefer the appearance of the original PDF: the text looks softer, lighter, and slightly less sharp. My locally compiled version looks darker and more pronounced. I ran pdffonts on both PDFs and found a very interesting difference. Original PDF (left): https://preview.redd.it/99espguotpkh1.png?width=1128&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca3f2dbbce6fb71bc10d7fc64b72f29a167af910 My locally compiled PDF (right): https://preview.redd.it/qc6glhlstpkh1.png?width=1117&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b82020b38770ba128136a0ee45b9a85df7a5849 So the original downloaded PDF uses Type 3 fonts, while my locally generated PDF uses Type 1 Latin Modern fonts. I don't know how the original PDF was compiled. I only have the distributed PDF, not the original build environment. My questions are: Could the use of Type 3 fonts explain why the original PDF looks softer/lighter? What LaTeX compilation workflow would typically produce this kind of Type 3 output? Could this be related to an older TeX distribution, DVI --> PS --> PDF workflow, bitmap fonts, or dvips? If I want to intentionally reproduce the appearance of the original PDF, what would be the correct approach? Is there a way to reproduce the same visual appearance while still using modern vector fonts? I'm currently using TeXstudio for editing/compiling the source. I’m not necessarily looking for a recommendation to make the PDF "better" - I actually like the softer appearance of the original and would like to understand and reproduce it. Thanks for your attention! submitted by /u/Fair_County_8581 [link] [comments]

  • Global table styles with tabularray
    by /u/cows_are_underrated_ on August 20, 2026 at 8:04 pm

So I have the following scenario: I personally use emacs orgmode for writing my software documentation, so that I can later export it to LaTeX. Since orgmode sets LaTeX Attributes (that can be used for styling tables) on a single table basis I would have to style every single table manually, which can become extremely tedious. Luckily Orgmode allows for the integration of LaTeX, which means that I could try to use the tabularray package to create a global table style for all my tables. So far I managed it to get the global to actually work inside emacs, but I am still not 100% satisfied with the result. My example orgmode document looks like this: #+Options: toc:nil #+author: cow #+LATEX_CLASS: article #+LATEX_CLASS_OPTIONS: [a4paper] #+LATEX_HEADER: \usepackage{booktabs} #+LATEX_HEADER: \usepackage{tabularray} #+LATEX_HEADER: \usepackage{xcolor} #+LATEX_HEADER: \NewTblrEnviron{globaltbl} #+LATEX_HEADER: \SetTblrInner[globaltbl]{hlines, vlines ,row{1} = {bg=gray5, fg=white, font=\bfseries, halign=c}, rowsep = 4pt, colsep = 8pt, width = \linewidth} #+LATEX_HEADER: \SetTblrOuter[globaltbl]{baseline = m} #+LATEX_HEADER: \renewenvironment{tabular}{\begin{globaltbl}}{\end{globaltbl}} |-----------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Exit code | Type | Meaning | |-----------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 0 | Internal/External | Succesfull operation; logical true | | | same column | | |-----------+-------------------+------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 1 | Internal | Non successfull operation; logical false and some other text that is not important | When exporting this results in the following LaTeX document: % Created 2026-08-20 Do 21:50 % Intended LaTeX compiler: pdflatex \documentclass[a4paper]{article} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{longtable} \usepackage{wrapfig} \usepackage{rotating} \usepackage[normalem]{ulem} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{capt-of} \usepackage{hyperref} \usepackage{} \usepackage{tabularray} \usepackage{booktabs} \usepackage{tabularray} \usepackage{xcolor} \NewTblrEnviron{globaltbl} \SetTblrInner[globaltbl]{hlines, vlines ,row{1} = {bg=gray5, fg=white, font=\bfseries, halign=c}, rowsep = 4pt, colsep = 8pt, width = \linewidth} \SetTblrOuter[globaltbl]{baseline = m} \renewenvironment{tabular}{\begin{globaltbl}}{\end{globaltbl}} \author{cow} \date{\today} \title{} \hypersetup{ pdfauthor={cow}, pdftitle={}, pdfkeywords={}, pdfsubject={}, pdfcreator={Emacs 30.2 (Org mode 9.7.11)}, pdflang={English}} \begin{document} \begin{center} \begin{tabular}{rll} \hline Exit code & Type & Meaning\\ \hline 0 & Internal/External & Succesfull operation; logical true\\ & same column & \\ \hline 1 & Internal & Non successfull operation; logical false and some other text that is not important\\ \end{tabular} \end{center} \end{document} Which looks like this when being rendered as pdf: https://preview.redd.it/6yi33to07lkh1.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=71f576449ea5a4f616af03376dea38ffcf0142ab As you can see, the layout is not able to handle tables that are wider than the document. I also would like for the layout to not render an additional horizontal line (not a \hline) between the first and second "column", since I would like them to be displayed as a single column. I would really appreciate if someone could try to help me figure out how to accomplish this. Sadly I can not make any sense out of the official documentation or examples of global table styles. Also keep in mind, that the table style should be able to handle table that have different amounts of columns. The official tabularray documentation: https://ftp.fau.de/ctan/macros/latex/contrib/tabularray/tabularray.pdf An example of a global table style: https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/687456/global-table-styles submitted by /u/cows_are_underrated_ [link] [comments]

  • BuJo dot grid and numbered pages
    by /u/Draco-Robotica on August 19, 2026 at 1:31 pm

Hey, so I'm trying to make a a5 bullet journal with dot grid pages and with numbers instead of the outer bottom corner dot. I can make dots just fine, either through geometry or graphix, but the numbering is the issue, even if I format it as a book. I don't even know where to look for the right answer. Sorting pages into the bindable book format later is not an issue, just the numbers themselves. submitted by /u/Draco-Robotica [link] [comments]

  • I Built an AI-power web tool for LaTeX editor(SomeScript) – looking for feedback
    by /u/Fankrits on August 19, 2026 at 3:58 am

I’ve been developing SomeScript, a web-based LaTeX environment with a built-in AI assistant focused on making the writing and troubleshooting process much smoother. Rather than just a basic editor, it includes an assistant to help: Debug Compilation Errors: Translate cryptic TeX log errors into clear, actionable fixes. Draft & Format Syntax: Quickly generate complex tables, TikZ diagrams, or math environments. Edit & Refine Text: Polish academic writing and document structure directly inside the editor. I'd really appreciate feedback from regular LaTeX users on: AI Debug Accuracy: Does it actually solve tricky package conflicts and syntax bugs effectively? Workflow Speed: Is the AI integration helpful, or does it get in the way of standard editing? Editor Experience: How does the general compiler performance and UI feel? Try it here: https://www.somescript.com/ Any constructive feedback, edge-case testing, or feature ideas would be hugely appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/st5x0or089kh1.png?width=2940&format=png&auto=webp&s=a6af3dff09e6e1f39e255862da341daf3a2a0a20 https://preview.redd.it/kvusjv9989kh1.png?width=630&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3de838ebd74917fa9b051f4a42bf5d054931fd7 submitted by /u/Fankrits [link] [comments]

  • Rant: (some) Typst users are so annoying
    by /u/Hairy_Glove2064 on August 18, 2026 at 10:11 pm

Every time I was just casually writing my documents in LaTeX, there will be a few people around me, and they are going to be like: "Oh, why are you on LaTeX? You should be using Typst, and it's so much better." Like, this is just so common, and it pisses me off so much. And even when I ask some questions online regarding LaTeX, there will always be one comment like, "Oh, you should use Typst." Edit: Why are some people so offensive? I did not say Typst is bad or something I am simply stating that the act of actively trying to convince other people to use a tool that YOU like is annoying submitted by /u/Hairy_Glove2064 [link] [comments]

    by /u/Fjana on August 17, 2026 at 1:00 pm

Alright, this sounds odd, but I have some pictograms which I line up in a text and use macros for them i.e. I have something like: \newcommand{\penV}{\raisebox{-0.15\fontdimen6\font{\includeinkscape[height=1\fontdimen6\font]{Pentomino/V}}} And I have gotten to a point where I need to place them into an image in Inkscape, i.e. I need to write a text in inkscape that include {\penV} macro, which, when I export it, should render within the image. I place the image in using \includeinkscape as well. However, if I try to compile the pdf, it returns an error: ! LaTeX Error: Command \fsize already defined. I have no idea how to fix it. Can anybody help me? Thank you. submitted by /u/Fjana [link] [comments]

  • A data-oriented approach to updating TeX's memory model (Hobby C++ engine update)
    by /u/DanielSussman on August 16, 2026 at 11:41 am

Over the last few weeks I've been sharing some updates on a c++ hobby TeX engine I've been working on (and thanks for the positive feedback so far!). Following up on the last post about the intersection between 1980s hardware constraints and how TeX's source code was written, I wanted to share a slightly deeper dive into a specific aspect of that: TeX's memory model. The latest video explores how tex.web started with a monolithic array for memory, how LuaTeX simultaneously preserved a lot of the legacy ideas while radically altering the size of memory words and splitting the memory array into a variable-sized and a fixed-size domain, and how I've tried to use data-oriented design (inspired) ideas to move to a memory model that is simultaneously friendlier to modern hardware and (arguably) easier to read and work with. I hope any LuaTeX people will excuse the extremely gentle ribbing in the video; as always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts! submitted by /u/DanielSussman [link] [comments]

    by /u/JimH10 on January 28, 2018 at 5:40 pm

Not a mod. But I was hoping to raise awareness that if you post a question that gets an answer then other people also benefit from that exchange. We've all googled a LaTeX question and found an old answer, and been glad it is there. Some people lurk here, picking things up over time. I'm not sure why so many people delete exchanges. There are good reasons to delete things sometimes, but asking for a clarification on a technical point does not seem, at least to me, to be one of them. The only other thing I can think is that those folks think that their question is clogging up the stream. I was hoping with this post to convince them that they are mistaken, and to leave it in place. In particular, if the answerer spends 15 mins on that answer and you delete the question, then you've been not too kind back to the person who was kind to you. submitted by /u/JimH10 [link] [comments]
