Malevolent
A heart of sea
I read people. I see through those ill-intended, malicious thoughts in people. Reading them makes me learn of what a person is capable of with their bad thoughts. If one can endure and forgive, they encompass the Virtue of Tolerance.
I just know.
I detect the tiniest ounce of your malevolence towards others, including what you’re coming at me with. I can sense them with my eyes closed. It has become a defensive mechanism over the years. I think of it before you even start. I can tell what’s coming, you know. But on the other hand, I can’t do shit about it. When it happens, I either take the damage you dealt or pretend I didn’t see it.
But I never make any guesses. I deduce. I catch the nuances when you make a move. The key is paying attention, not only looking but also observing with your mind. They always want you to notice, but not make it too obvious, but enough to let you know. Or it will not work. They like teasing you. Wait and see how tempting they are to make some small gestures to taunt you.
Don’t take the bait.
I know why, and how, you might do it. People can’t stands someone’s opinions, the attitude, behaviour, or simply of how’s their appearance is. Some might not even need a reason in particular. There’s something they developed inside them to begin with. You have a certain attribute or two to make them envious. Something they don’t have or “cleverer” because of knowing what they’re pulling. But they will try their hardest refuse to admit it. Then they turn it into attacks. To no surprise, I made some enemies along the way. It probably because I’m always the guy who’s getting under people’s skin.
I know who—what you really are. Says one thing, does another. You’re but some two-faced douchebag. Knowing doesn’t mean anything; I can neither stop you nor prevent you from doing anything. But I “understand” you. How pitiable it would be if one needs to gain confidence or feel superior over someone by doing anything malicious towards somebody. Because you can get away with it? Because no one knows? Just because you need some proof to show to me, specifically, that you’re the one who’s superior.
I see the snake in you.
Talking back is meaningless. What I would do in such a situation is always the same. I’ll let them know that, I know. And that’s it. Don’t worry, I don’t talk back. In no way can I fight back. But you cannot “win,” because I’ve nothing there to lose. I’m just waiting, waiting for your mask to somehow slip off someday. People will see.
It become less likely for their taunts to work on me as I grew older. Not because I’m smart, but because I don’t take the bait that easily. Brush it off; never pay attention to them. Doing nothing is the best response. I’ve made wrong assumptions, seeing the worst in people. When I’m old enough to understand a lot of things, I keep telling myself I should know better. I’m hoping I can pay less attention to people’s malevolence, instead, seeing the goodness in them.
I want myself to have a heart of sea.
