West Bromwich (pronounced BROM-itch) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, in the West Midlands, England. It is about 6 miles northwest of Birmingham.^[2] The town had a population of 83,638 at the 2021 census.^[1]

West Bromwich is part of the Black Country. It was historically part of Staffordshire.

The town was mentioned as Bromwic in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name is believed to mean "broom village".^[2] West Bromwich was mainly a rural settlement until it began to grow during the Industrial Revolution. Coal and ironstone were found in the area, and industries such as coal mining and brick making developed.^[2]

West Bromwich is home to West Bromwich Albion F.C., an football club. The club plays its home matches at The Hawthorns.^[3] The club plays in the EFL Championship, the second level of English football.

West Bromwich is divided between the West Bromwich and Tipton and Wednesbury constituencies.^[4]^[5]
