On July 19, 2024, CrowdStrike delivered a malformed content update to their global fleet of Windows Falcon agents which resulted in a mass BSOD event affecting ~8.5 million systems worldwide. This event has become known as “ClownStrike”.

First, let me start by saying that I have no qualms about those who use Threads, whether as their primary social media presence or if they merely dabble over there as I do. I have no purity tests with which one may fail. I can say, from my experience using Threads, that it is very pleasant and my “For You” feed is pretty enjoyable, though content is very superficial, mostly filled with funny people trying to go viral, some Fediverse talk, NBA chatter and of course shit posts from the official Wendy’s account.

@mumblegrepper My guess is just that infosec wasn’t big then like it is now. I got my start in 2010(ish) and even then I don’t think it had really ballooned into what modern-day infosec looks like today. 90’s era infosec seems almost prehistoric. Hell, CVEs didn’t even become a thing until 1999. “Modern” CVE naming came (back?) in force (imo) in 2014 with Heartbleed. And now after 10 years, the practice is anything but new in 2024 😅.

Some quick thoughts on Apple’s WWDC 2024. Notes and analysis across all the OS updates from the event, Apple TV+, visionOS 2, iOS 18, AirPods & Home, watchOS 11, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia and Apple’s newly introduced AI capabilties.

Some weekend reads…

WeblogPoMo 2024 comes to an end today. It was my first time participating and it was a lot of fun! I connected with a bunch of people who were also participating, I mostly* kept up with my writing each day, I cleared out some long-lost draft posts and I explored a lot of different topics.

On May 30, 2019 I published the very first post to shellsharks.com, “Getting Into Information Security”. When I first started the blog I didn’t have a particularly clear idea of what I wanted to do with it, but I had the idea to write that piece and one other idea which which was to catalog all named vulnerabilities. Beyond that, I just wrote about whatever came to mind. It’s been 5 years to the day since I got that first piece out and not only has the site come a long way, but so have I.

Here are the steps I generally go through in order to produce The Shellsharks Podcast (and an estimate of how long each step takes).
