Through Lines 236
If you’ve been paying attention here long enough you know that Phil is important to me, so it should be no surprise that I’m excited to watch this documentary from Drumeo on one of my favorite drummers (and singers). If I’m being honest though, it’s hard to see him look so fragile because all the times I saw him live, it was a very different person keeping the audience rapt whether in front or behind the kit.
- “The process by which we stop regarding only the people that we know, or humans in general as being people, beings who matter, and we start to see everything as being people who are in their own process of passing through space time on a trajectory that occasionally intersects with our own.” More than Human Aesthetics is a lengthy interview with James Bridle on aesthetics, AI, ecology and how these things all fit together. Worth your time.
- The National have an excellent new double live album out this week called Rome. Instead of an accompanying high production concert film, they put together a more intimate portrait from hundreds (thousands?) of submitted videos and photos from fans around the world.
- How on earth have I never heard/seen this hilarious Christmas track from Kathleen Edwards? Going up there as a new favorite.
- The restoration process of these vintage Star Wars film posters is fascinating — and a little terrifying (what if you screw up?). The first poster I can’t say I’ve ever seen before.
- Lots of new and improved support for handy CSS and related web features in the latest version of Safari, still my browser of choice after all these years.
- Feeling like you need a little creative jolt? Here’s some useful (and fun!) creative thinking exercises to help shake loose some of the cobwebs so you cab see things differently.
- 28 Years Later has some big shoes to fill given how good the previous two films were. Based on the terrifying trailer, I’d say it looks like it will put a wicked bow on that particular film trilogy.
- Take small steps — an incredibly simple guide for living in an unpredictable world.
- “Screentime has become a colosseum where everything is in competition with everything else…” It’s worth facing up to the truth of The New Rules of Media.
- As soon as size is the goal, you’re done. Let this be a moment.
- Unfocusing is prudent. Can’t agree more with Chris on this.
- MarkItDown looks super handy.
Glad to wrap up another busy week. Between work and some solid studio time, it’s been a productive week including a new shop section added to the site (and other under-the-hood technical improvements), as well as another new print design — and a pair of new zines in progress.
