George Stroumboulopoulos, a mainstay in the Canadian music world, in a wide-ranging and thoroughly enjoyable interview with Geddy and Alex from Rush on the 40th anniversary of their seminal 1981 album Moving Pictures.

• Here goes my weekend deep into this rabbit hole of gravitational science, black holes and general relativistic renderings from Sean Holloway. Nerd factor ten.
• I really didn’t expect to wake up one day this week to a new Pink Floyd track given that the band officially disbanded 28 years ago.
• These paper sculpture studies of bats by Juan Nicolás Elizalde are amazing.
• I (and I suspect many others) would have much preferred a waffle party to the fairly lame, poor quality swag my employer offered up to us upon our hybrid return to the office a couple weeks back.
• I’m very intrigued by this idea of a human library — an experience driven by open, safe conversations between human beings.
• Darkroom 6 adds some pretty cool mask magic and local adjustments features to an already fantastic app. A few fun new icon are a nice bonus too.
• BBEdit, 30 years later, it still doesn’t suck.
• I may have shared this before, but Anil Dash’s The Broken Tech/Content Cycle is worth resurfacing again because it’s spot on.
• Macrodata Refinement. Still find this oddly disturbing.

Notable Type Releases

• In-House International puts variable font-tech to good use their new angular display face Broker. Very fun. Much like.
• Rockhopper from Jeremy Tankard explores the idea of cumulative swashes, a thing I’d never heard of until I read the release notes, but I do find its soft curves and solid structure pleasing to my eyes.
• What Bw Fusiona may be missing in originality, I think it makes up for in breadth across a vast array of companion weights and styles. Workhorse is an apt description.
• The sophisticated and complex Boutique from Millieu Grotesque, newly revised in 2022 is up there on my wishlist. I can’t say no to an idiosyncratic Didone, can you?
