Playing Soul at the Wrong Speed

The return of Nada Surf and the poetic and bittersweet reflection on being present In Front of Me Now from their forthcoming Moon Mirror album seems like a good reason to look back at this 2018 performance at KEXP where they performed their 2002 album “Let Go” front to back in its entirety.

Hugely under-appreciated, Nada Surf could have easily been a one-hit-wonder with their breakout single Popular, but instead have gone on to consistently produce one brilliant album after another for 30 years. This performance demonstrates both their musical and lyrical songwriting chops as well as just how good they as performers.

I definitely need to pick up tickets for their SF show in October.

I met Matthew and Ira from the band after a special acoustic performance at Sonic Records in Toronto in (I think) 2008 and they were both as earnest and genuine as their music suggests.
