Hello again to a future me, and to an unknown you.
I recently logged into my Amazon Web Services account and exported the databases of a number of old blogs.
There were a number of sites hosted on node for myself, friends, (my mother).
On many of the blogs, I wrote the first entry; excited for the person that I provisioned the platform for ("your admin here, get ready for a great blog").
Nostalgia filled, this is me doing the same, knowing I'll one day look back at this post and feel something.1
Let's find out what that feeling is, unknown reader (future Dylan you likely already know?), but I'll state my intention.
I just want to record things I find interesting, and put them out into the universe.
If the universe doesn't find my writings interesting, then I'll hopefully adapt and find more interesting things, or resign to being boring.
But I'm into exploring, data visualization, math, science, tech, and might dabble in short stories; we'll see where things go.
My track record for blogging has not been the best2, here's data and a preview of the fact this site is backed by marimo interactivity:
Another note on the site: this is a .dm domain which is the country TLD of Dominica- the island I grew up on and affectionately call home.
I only realized last year, my initials, Dylan Madisetti are also appropriate here.
Unfortunately, .dm is not as popular as Anguilla's .ai at 10% of their GDP3, but happy to give our nic.dm some business.
Domain secured, I knew it was time again to start webloggin' again and here we are.
Some other blogs I'm going to look to for inspiration:
There are others, but I feel like these are relatively hidden gems.
I was thinking of how to phrase this without being so cliche and somehow I initially landed on: "reading through the entries I found nostalgia soaked memories hiding in the folds of my gyri" - which is objectively, awful. Someone used the simile "like a scapula to gyri" recently and upon learning what a gyrus was, I have never been the same. ↩
