OnTheIssues.org BOOK REVIEW:
Mike Huckabee wrote this book in 1998, well before he was on the presidential circuit. We review it now because Huckabee is on Romney's vice presidential short list. But the themes Huckabee expressed in 1998 are entirely consistent with the themes he expressed during his 2008 presidential run, and on his TV show and books since.
Those themes, as expressed in the book's title and subtitle, are that the breakdown of the family structure leads to childhood crime, as well as to a high level of abortions and other immoral acts. Huckabee details this theme in his outline of the book (pp. 4-5) as follows:

Abortion 50M abortions a year worldwide is bug business. Abortions are legal but they're NOT safe. |
Budget & Economy Economic prosperity is accompanied by moral bankruptcy. |
Civil Rights If Titanic sank now, feminism would cost more women's lives. Women's liberation resulted in women's impoverishment. |
Crime Juvenile violent crime increasing while all crime decreases. Don't treat criminal children the same as adults. |
Education Decline in school quality due to NEA union. NEA opposes school prayer despite teachers' conservatism. Emphasis on socialization is abominably subversive. |
Families & Children Porn industries make billions; but damage America morally. Yes, we legislate morality; including "victimless" crimes. No-fault divorce increases feminization of poverty. Sexual "revolution" causes illegitimacy & family dysfunction. Government can't replace family as building block of society. Family breakdown is symptom; disease is lack of character. |
Gun Control Restrictive gun laws don't stop culture of violence. |
Principles & Values American triad of values: faith, family, & work. Faith reorients us away from sin & toward future & maturity. Working in faith will restore our downgraded culture. |
Technology Mass profanity is at its worst in pop music. Road rage means we've lost social inhibitions when driving. Entertainment industry is brainwashing kids to kill. Science cannot create a utopian society. |
Welfare & Poverty Social service agencies can never replace the family. Reinstitute Puritan work ethic as American foundation. |
