News and Announcements
This LSC system maintains a database on members, their addresses and phone numbers, together with the approval system for accepting or denying applications. Before filling in these forms, you should know that you have the right to this account and that it will be authorized. If you want to apply for a job, ask questions about LIGO science, or find press releases, see

02-07-2018 - Version 2.1.14
This version gives top-level administrators (like spokes people) the ability to lookup a user and see memberships and membership history, LSC efforts, Kerberos principal information, and current Grouper groups. This is launched from the group membership page.
Also in this version is enhanced password functionality. When a user wishes to change their password, or needs to reset a lost password, Myligo will suggest new randomly generated passwords and passphrases the user may elect to use. Note that new password rules are in effect, and may be found here: ( password rules ).
This version includes several other improvements and fixes, including the speed of author list generation from the web UI.
02-07-2017 - Version 2.1.13
This version allows returning LIGO-Virgo members to have their accounts reactivated more efficiently by routing such request directly to LIGO/Virgo group managers without needing to open a myligo@ligo.org support ticket.
06-14-2016 - Version 2.1.12
Below is a summary of some features of myLIGO that not everybody may know.
Things every LSC member can do with myLIGO
You will see the following listed in the left margin of the web page, when you select the tab "My Information".
- Edit My Contact Information
- Update your address and phone number
- My @LIGO.ORG Info
- Change your password
- Change your forwarding email
- See your LSC efforts: note that the FTE% must be 100% if you have just one membership, as most people do. Note also that the LSC% is your route to the Author List: if it is >=50% for about a year, you will be on the author list.
- Authorship settings: This is how your name will appear in the Author List. You can put in accents with TeX markup, for example entering Gonz\'alez puts an accent on the "a". See here for more information.
- Additional Authorship Affiliations**NEW**. This is how you can petition the LSC to add an additional affiliation in the Author List. It does not affect anything except the author list.
- Other Gravitational Wave Experiment Membership.
Please indicate if your a member of other GW projects
- Census Report
- See the census of LSC institutions
- The link at the bottom of the page allows you to view the LSC in Google Earth, showing the location of each LSC institution, with a circle whose size shows the number of people affiliated with that institution
- Change my Institution
- Allows you to apply to transfer your membership at a new institution, and your existing membership will expire
- You should suggest an "effective date" for the transfer, that must be in the past, and an "expiration date", that must be in the future. The group manager can modify these.
- Please write a little about the "reason for this transfer" in the box provided, it is a note from you to the approver, who will be the group manager at your new institution,
- You can also petition to keep the old membership and get a "joint appointment", so your existing membership remains. Please explain in the "reason for this transfer" box.
- Leave the LSC**NEW**
- This is how you can expire one or more of your memberships. If all your memberships are expired, you will no longer have access to any private LSC resources.
- If you are on the author list and leave the LSC, you will remain on the author list for about a year.
Things group managers can do with myLIGO
You will see the following listed in the left margin of the web page, when you select the tab "Manage Group".
- Pending Membership Requests
- if an LSC member is transferring, it says TRANSFER in the list, and if the member wants a joint appointment (keep both memberships), it says JOINT APPOINTMENT.
- The "Approver's Note" is sent to the person that applied, with some words around it: "The Membership Authorizer of your new LIGO Group has the following message for you:"
- You can make more space for the approver's note with your mouse. Pull the lower right of the text box to make it bigger.
- Manage FTE/Positions
- The FTE% is the percentage of LSC time that is spent at your institution. If the person has only one membership, it should therefore be 100%.
- The LSC% is the person's route to being on the author list: it must be 50% or more for a recent year or so.
- Author List
- This is a projection of who from your group will be in the next issue of the Author List, which happens Feb 15 and Aug 15 every year.
- There is more information about the person and how the choice is made, by clicking "toggle detail view".
- In the detail view, you can see not only who is now an author (and why), butu also those of your group who will soon be authors.
- Remove/Extend Membership
- If you expire a membership by putting "now" in the Expiration Date, you see a preview of the email message that will be sent to the person, and you can edit this message.
- You can deny a request with no email being sent to the applicant: simply delete all the text in the message.
- You can make more space for the message with your mouse. Pull the lower right of the text box to make it bigger.
02-25-2016 - Version 2.1.11
for all LSC members
- When an account is deprovisioned, email from private LSC lists is completely stopped.
- Name collision messages are more accurate about the reason.
- Membership transfers between LSC and Virgo have their certificate DNs properly handled.
- On the front page of roster.ligo.org, the "Country" select list now has only countries where LSC members reside.
- A query result page of roster.ligo.org now has a button to send email to all of the people on the page.
for Group Managers
- The "Author List" page has additional information when "toggle detail view" is clicked: Start date for each person, their LSC effort (>= 50% means author eligible), and a CSV version of the author table.
- The "Manage FTE/Positions" page now has the start date for each person.
- New weekly reminder email for group managers about outstanding applications.
- New weekly reminder email for group managers about members whose FTE% level does not sum to 100%.
- Pending application table has the "submit" button as default.
for LIGOLab accounts
- The sponsor of an account application can suggest Position, FTE%. Research%, and LSC-research% when the box "is LSC member" is checked.
.... and lots of bugs fixed.
06-23-2015 - Version 2.1.10
for Group Managers
- Real-Time Author List:
There is a real-time estimate of the next author list so that PIs can see who will be an author at the next six-monthly revision. The detail view shows author names and periods of author-eligible LSC work, as well as those who are "nearly" authors. (Look in Manage Group, then on the left “Author List”)
- Transfer detail is correct:
In earlier versions, pending transfer petitions had the wrong information under the "detail" link. This is now corrected.
- Improved Display:
In earlier versions, pending application petitions could be shown twice. This is fixed. Also names are written and sorted as "Einstein, Albert" rather than "Albert Einstein".
For LSC members
- Demographics removed:
The Demographics information collection and display is now removed from myLIGO due to privacy concerns.
- Transfer application sends email to applicant:
When a transfer application is submitted, an email is sent to the applicant with the names/emails of those who can approve it, so that a gentle reminder can be sent.
- Preventing multiple accounts:
Application for an account must use a forwarding email that is not already used by another member or application. This helps prevent multiple accounts for the same person. If a member tries get a new account with the same name, it is suggested that maybe they should try the transfer page.
- Preventing multiple transfer requests:
When a transfer request has been made, the same person cannot make another request until the first is either approved or denied.
- Clearer wording:
Many small changes to the wording for forms and emails to make the meaning clearer, especially for transfers within a federated group such as (eg GEO, ACIGA).
- Log in from phone:
Sometimes the username for login to myLIGO is auto-capitalized by a device; user names are now accepted independent of capitalization.
11-20-2014 - Version 2.1.9
For LSC members
- Change LSC Group:
There is a new capability for those moving from one LSC institution to another, or transfers between LSC and Virgo. Click My Information and on the left “Change Group Affiliation”. An application is submitted to the new LSC group, and upon authorization it also expires membership in the old LSC group. Both effective and expiration dates should be entered here.
- Accents in Author Names:
LSC authors with accented names should use TeX notation (example J\’er\^ome for Jérôme) so their name will be correct
in LSC-authored papers. Click My Information/My @LIGO.ORG Info, and look for Authorship Settings.
- Other GW projects:
LSC members are encouraged to show their affiliation with other GW projects (My Information/My @LIGO.ORG Info), and
The statistics are now shown in the census page (My Information/Census Report).
for Group Managers
- Warning of account expiration:
Warnings now go to a wider group, now including all managers who may modify the expiration date.
- Sortable Tables:
The FTE efforts table (Manage Group/Manage FTE Positions) and the Remove/Extend membership table (Manage Group/Remove/Extend Membership) have click-to-sort column headings.
05-20-2014 - Version 2.1.8
- For LSC members:
LSC effort numbers are exposed to the LSC member
as well to as their manager. An expanded section asks about
membership in other gravitational-wave projects. There is a Google
Earth (KML) representation of all LSC sites in the Census section.
- New accounts:
New members do not get a password in their welcome
message, but rather a time-sensitive URL to set the password. In
that message, new members are directed to the LSC Beginners Guide.
There is a new link on the front page for KAGRA members to sign
up.
- For group managers:
The remove/extend membership page for managers
lists when each member began their membership. The LSC efforts page
allows download as a machine-readable CSV file, as with the roster
pages. There is a new position category "High School Student".
- Account expiration:
All new LSC accounts now have an expiration
date, that can be decided and changed by the PI. Warnings are sent
as the date approaches (30 days and 3 days), and then the group
membership and login privileges withdrawn automatically on that
date.
- Multiple memberships:
Those who belong to more than one LSC group
are better served, so that expiration of one membership does not
mean expiration of all. Messages are now explicit about which
membership has been modified. Group managers are explicitly
informed about other memberships of their members when they expire
a membership.
09-12-2013 - Version 2.1.5
- LSC PIs can now manage Council Delegates from the myLigo system, just check and uncheck from the LSC members in the group.
The system will not allow more council members than the bylaws allow. Authorizers for affiliates (eg Cardiff is an affilate of GEO)
get a different view than asoociation managers (eg GEO is an association).
- PIs of all myLigo groups can manage future expiration dates of their LSC members
(which may be the special word "Never"). If the PI puts an expiration date in the past (or the special word "Now"),
it is interpreted as a call for removal of that member's account entirely -- after a confirmation screen.
- Affiliates are represented more coherently in the group management. The PI of the whole association can do the group
membership actions for the whole group, but the affiliate manager can also do all four actions
for those people they manage in the affiliate organization, including selecting council members.
- The Roster has new features: getting the result of any table as a CSV file, and showing LSC members by country.
- A number of small changes in wording in some screens and emails.
11-20-2012 - Version 2.1.2
This version of myLIGO requires sponsorship of applications for external committees and for LIGO Lab accounts. It gives more control to authorizers for the messages that are sent approving or denying the application, as well as giving them contact information for the sponsor. The group management interface is also improved.
04-19-2012 - Version 2.1
Welcome to an updated version of myLIGO which adds several enhancements to the account enrollment process as well as access to demographic and census reports.
- Census and demographics reports are now available.
- Different types of application have different forms to fill in.
- Some applications must be sponsored, meaning that the form is filled in not by the candidate, but by an existing member of LIGO.
- Some applications have an expiration date that can be suggested by the candidate, and modified by the authorizer.
- The application process for members of external groups is clarified and improved.
