updated slowchat rules to better reflect some things... it's not that i don't enjoy talking media opinions or getting media recommends, it's just that i prefer those kinds of things in settings with friends... where somebody has knowledge of my interests, how to subvert them with a solid recommend, and where it's already deeply ingrained that everybody's opinions don't need validating... on here, i'd rather not be a validation/takes machine, since online communication has absolutely created a culture of parroting opinions, needing them reaffirmed, etc, rather than having them clash in a way that creates deep discussion - and i can't really provide that here.

trying to avoid "i am" statements that do not relate directly to how i identify, especially when it is a thing i would prefer to work with/around/through rather than have happen to me. "i am ill" becomes "i have an illness." "i am disabled" becomes "i have a disability." this was influenced by learning the gaeilge word "orm," which creates phrases such as "i have sadness on me." it is important to understand how language subconsciously creates identity that you might not even believe in.

i've modified the site a bit to use media queries to keep older browsers (tested on k-meleon 1.5) from loading heavier elements. it's working well on my win98 pentium 2 machine now!

encoded the ac_nh screenshots to avif format from the original source images for better quality and significantly lower size. i fought with myself a bit over use of the format but i think for something like this its not a big deal. widely-supported formats will still be used where it matters.
