Please Keep Your Computer On

You're 100% There

You're 100% there.

Please keep your computer on.

I found myself staring at the above phrase during one of Windows 11's biweekly self-sabotage sessions and I started thinking, Well that's rather existential, isn't it? It speaks to the age.

They need you to keep your computer on. Of course they do. It's the whole way they make money. Windows licenses don't pay the bills anymore, subscription services do. But they also add a bunch of UI changes that funnel unaware users into use patterns that are more profitable, like those with advertisements and tracking.

Please keep your computer on. We're downloading things right now to keep track of you and monetize your every action. Google invented it, Apple normalized it, now Microsoft has expanded into avalailable space as usual. Please, keep your device activated at all times. Do not attempt to deactivate the viewscreen.

Do not attempt to distract yourself. Don't go to your happy place. This is your reality. This is real. Stay with the pain, don't block this out. It's right here. This is your reality. There is nothing else.

You are one hundred percent there.
