Site Structure
I recommend following this site with RSS; the feed links are on the “chronological” pages linked below. If you don’t use RSS, you can get it forwarded to your email. I make this recommendation because I post pretty irregularly; this way, you don’t have to check and be disappointed when I’m not posting, but you’ll know when I do post, and be able to decide if it sounds interesting to you.
Greatest Hits
If you are new and trying to get your bearings, I would first advise scrolling through the posts page and reading the titles.
Outside of my link harvests, if you want a taste for my writing:
- mr. openai I don’t feel so good - Don’t scrape me!
- a hidden art reference in shirley jackson’s the haunting of hill house - If you get why identifying this feels like a victory, you’re probably also of the culture-spelunking kind
- social media isn’t chalk milk - Whether or not you agree with me you will start to see a distinction in the metaphor under the surface in a lot of social media criticism
- servers, sewers, alienation - There’s multimedia and childhood experience and Pacific Northwest Facts and it is the most maya dot land thing that has yet been written1
- /u/spez is right about feudalism and that’s why reddit as we know it is doomed - Least hinged thing around, and I am including the Latin fanwork
Types
Evergreen Content
My site inspiration comes from old stuff I remember from Back In The Day, and then more contemporarily, Xanthe and Kicks Condor.
A list:
- alcohol
- astrology
- bones
- books
- college advice
- comics
- fine art
- goblin manifesto
- heraldry
- incense
- laugh rule
- now listening
- mastodon
- notetaking
- paper and notebooks
- pens
- perfume
- premodernity
- reenchanted time
- screenshot garden
- seattle
- spaced repetition systems
- tarot
- technical notes
- thirty year plan
- user styles
- videogames
- words
- zines
This list is not comprehensive. There are intentionally orphaned pages and also intentionally nested ones.
Updates to Evergreen Content (“updates”)
Every now and again I summarize the more substantial changes to the evergreen stuff so that folks who don’t stop by much know to go check it out.
Chronological Content (“posts”)
Dependent Content (“responses”)
These are posts “about” some link, in some sense, though I can’t say I try real hard to stay on-topic.
Independent Chronological Content (“monologues”)
These tend to be things that were eating me up enough to need a venue.
