05.5 Josephine Community Library District Website

The Josephine Community Library District (JCLD) comprises four library branches in Josephine County. Beyond books, they are an important part of their community. They wanted their site to reflect this. They also wanted to focus on neglected demographics. We gave special attention to inclusivity, accessibility, and Spanish-speaking patrons.

Audiobooks landing page from the website. From top to bottom: two navigation blocks, a large hero image of a smiling woman with a headline/synopsis overlaid, and an audiobook carousel with a CTA button.

Mark Wyner did more than design a new website for our public library—he built an interactive online branch. He took the time to learn about our organization and find out the “why” behind our services before translating them into a meaningful presentation. Mark has a way of looking at data and receiving feedback, knowing exactly what needs to be done to achieve our desired goals.

Scope of work

Stakeholder interviews, ethnographic research, patron interviews, heuristics audit, analytics audit, comparative landscape analysis, ideation sessions, persona development, information architecture, wireframes, content strategy, usability testing, UI design/development, Wordpress development. (In partnership with the talented Bitclone team.)

A grid of wireframes for the website. Two personas, one for a tween and one for an educator, each with a mini profile and list of stories. Segment of a similarity matrix report for a card sort usability study. It’s a grid of number blocks with varying shades of blue to denote proxmity, each row ending with a label.

Results

Our post-launch analytics showed immediate results, far beyond our expectations. Improved IA/navigation made it easier for librarians to help patrons. And most importantly, the site delighted patrons. They loved the design and were able to efficiently find the content they needed.
